The Dutch Youth Soccer Cup 2016 tour – M.R.F.A.’s experience

Last weekend, M.R.F.A. took 33 of our players on an unforgettable tour to Holland for the Dutch Youth Soccer Cup 2016.

From the moment we left for Calais, we had some amazing experiences, from the Ajax Stadium tour, to meeting other players from all across Europe and the overall buzz that bounced off each player – albeit with a slightly bumpy ferry ride back to Dover on the way home!

Some of the teams M.R.F.A.’s players were up against from Europe were Barcelona, Sparta Rotterdam and Bristol Rovers – an exhilarating test for our players

Day one of the Tournament

Upon arrival to CVV Zwervers, the host club, we were amazed by the facilities!  Three full sized 3G pitches, along with brand new changing rooms and a clubhouse with a view across the main pitch.

The U14s were placed in a tough set with Bristol Rovers, UVS and CVV Zwervers.

Our U11s were up against Sparta Rotterdam, SVS, and North Somerset FD.

Finally, the U10s with CVV Zwervers, SVS and South Gloucester.

Despite some great football from our players, and proud parents stood on the side lines, the day drew to a close and our sides hadn’t managed a win, but everyone had a great day and remained positive, which is all you need in such a competitive environment.

With our heads held high, we headed back to the hotel for dinner and evening activities, which comprised of mini golf, swimming and of course, watching the champions league final!

Day two of the Tournament

After a tough first day of football, each age group bounced back superbly well.  The football was a joy to watch and it could have been the Ajax in the 1980s… Each player showed a great deal of courage to turn around the disappointment from day one.

The U14s won one out of three games on day two.

For the U11s, it was a successful day with winning two out of their three games and Striker, Jack Wass, picking up the golden boot for his age group!

Lastly, the U10s had an enthralling day, having started with a loss, they then won a 3-2 thriller and then finishing off with a big 5-0 win!

Day three of the Tournament

On the final day of the tour, we travelled to Amsterdam Arena and got to see in real-time where Ajax have hosted many games over the years!

Once we finished our stadium tour, there was one last stop; a training session with Ajax’s Academy coaches!  The sessions, hosted by the club, were first class and our players got to experience what it would be like to be an academy player at Ajax – and on the impressive pitch too.  A huge testament to our players as Ajax staff has since been in touch to praise them for their ability and the hard work they put into the session.

It was on that positive note that we unfortunately had to make headway for our journey home.  It was a truly amazing tour, with amazing experiences, that won’t be forgotten at any time soon.  We sincerely hope that everyone who was able to join us had an enjoyable time.

From all at M.R.F.A., we would like to say a very many thanks to everyone who came with us, to our players for their efforts and positivity throughout the whole weekend and for making M.R.F.A., and the parents, very proud!

Until next year…!
