“How can I get recognised by a semi/pro-club?”
This question is quite possibly the most popular one we get asked or at least, that players tell us they want to achieve.
And it’s no wonder – signing or even trialling at semi-pro-club is a huge achievement.
So we thought we’d share our top tips on what you can be doing as a player, or as a parent encouraging your child to do, to help them get to where they want to be!
1. PUT IN THE HOURS
If you’re currently playing grassroots football, your average training time is about 3 hours a week. But in a pro club, you will be doing 6 hours training minimum a week!
So make sure you’re filling this huge gap elsewhere with extra training. You need to develop your fitness & technical levels as they will be doing an additional 3 hours compared to you right now.
2. WORK WITH THE RIGHT COACHES
Players at grassroots teams get access to level 1 & 2 coaches. But pro club coaches are UEFA A & B qualified and highly skilled in what they do.
The difference is massive, so you want to make sure you can access this type of coaching wherever possible.
3. GET VARIETY IN YOUR TRAINING
It’s important to make sure you’re practising the whole variety of topics and not just one, e.g. ball mastery. Try and fill your additional training time with the full variety – ball mastery, finishing, dribbling and passing & receiving.
4. DEVELOP YOUR SUPER STRENGTH
Professional clubs will be looking for your “super strength”. This is your strength that makes you stand out from the rest. So it’s important to perfect your strengths, as much as working on your areas of development.
For example, if you’re an avid striker, make sure you’re spending enough time perfecting this area and become known for it.
If you put in the time and work on all 4 of these areas, you’re making incredible headway and your hard work is bound to be recognised.
